About Us
The Community Car Share of Bellingham began operation August 1st, 2006.
The Community Car Share Board of Directors
Chris Comeau is Co-Chair and works as a Transportation Planner for the City of Bellingham Public Works Department. From 2001 - 2006, Chris' primary responsibility was to update Bellingham's 1995 Comprehensive Plan, including a complete rewrite of the Transportation Element. Chris is a frequent WTA bus rider and sees great potential for both transit and car sharing programs to offer legitimate opportunities for Bellinghamsters to reduce both automobile dependence and automobile ownership. He brings fresh ideas to every meeting.
Pam Englett is a car share Director and has been a car share member since August 2008. She has lived in Whatcom County since 1979 and raised two children here. She has a private practice as a lawyer helping people with family law and domestic violence issues. Pam had a long history prior to her practice of law of volunteering for Womencare Shelter in various capacities and other volunteer positions in the community. She has given talks to community groups regarding domestic violence and family law issues and does regular pro bono work with low income domestic violence survivors.
Karen Henriksen is our Co-Chair and works at Western Washington University. Karen has been a board member since the car share began in 2006. She has extensive experience in event planning and management. Karen volunteers with the Mt. Baker Chapter of the Red Cross as a national disaster services responder and a member of the Disaster Assessment Team, which included work as a Hurricane Katrina Relief Volunteer. She is an avid bike commuter and a strong supporter of alternative transportation.
Kathleen King was elected Treasurer. She moved to Bellingham in 2008 to be closer to her family and has volunteered her time twice a month to help with the accounting and billing for the car share since November 2008. Over the past thirty years Kathleen has worked in accounting in a C.P.A. firm, as a controller for a software company, and for ten years as a controller for a National hotel chain. In the last ten years she worked at a small printing company in rural Wisconsin while also teaching an evening accounting class at the local community college.
Scott Pelton is a Director. He has lived and been active in the Bellingham community for 12 years and recently committed to not driving his car for six months. He has worked with the non-profit Sustainable Connections as a Project Assistant and was the Director of the Sierra Club's Anti-Sprawl Committee. He was a lead organizer for Bellingham Park(ing) Day 2009 and currently serves on the Growth Management Committee of the non-profit Futurewise. After completing graduate school he traveled and worked as an ESL teacher in South Korea for a year and was also the Director of Sponsorship for the Bellingham Traverse.
